WP Mayor is widely respected as a trusted source for in-depth reviews and tutorials about WordPress, and the products and services that surround it.
Having been writing about WordPress for 12 years, we understand what it takes to run such a blog and to keep it alive for all these years. We’re now on the lookout for new writers to join our team and help us in our continued efforts to deliver consistent and quality content alongside the existing team.
Here’s what we’re looking for.
You are an avid and experienced WordPress user and are very familiar with plugins, themes, hosting, and WordPress-centred services.
You have the ability to use and understand the technical aspects behind WordPress products and services and are able to explain them in simple terms to non-tech-savvy readers.
You are able to communicate effectively with your team and accept critical feedback in a professional manner. WP Mayor aims to create the best possible content for its readers, so constructive criticism is part and parcel of our day-to-day lives as we strive to help each other improve.
You love to take the initiative and take pride in the quality of your work, recommending content ideas and suggesting improvements to make WP Mayor the best that it can be.
You are passionate about sharing your knowledge by teaching and guiding fellow WordPress users through the medium of your writing.
You have previous experience as a content writer, preferably within the WordPress space, and have a passion to continue learning and expanding your skill-set.
You’re fluent in both written and spoken English to be able to communicate with team members, clients, affiliate partners, and more – via chat, email, audio calls, and video calls.
You are looking for a full-time dedicated role as part of a small, dedicated team rather than a one-off or short-term opportunity.
Analyzing and possibly conducting keyword research to identify target keywords on a specific topic or idea, hence being able to plan and structure your content accordingly.
Writing engaging and accurate blog posts, reviews, and/or tutorials to guide WordPress users on their journey in the most effective way possible.
Creating screenshots for each article by following our brand and image guidelines.
Addressing the SEO requirements for each blog post and optimizing the content to ensure that it reaches the right audience.
Linking internally and externally to relevant content and resources throughout each article.
Making edits to existing content on WP Mayor in an effort to improve readability, SEO, accuracy, and keep the content up-to-date.
Keeping to the team’s schedule using our internal content calendars.
To excel in this position, we require the following skills and work experience.
Experience in writing and editing: You are able to create well-structured content in a conversational tone to guide and advise novice and more experienced WordPress users. You are fluent in English and can proofread your own work. You are capable of writing in a persuasive tone to ensure that your content drives home the main point of each article.
WordPress knowledge: You have been using WordPress for quite some time and are familiar with the various types of plugins, themes, and services. You can set up a local website to test out products and services and are able to troubleshoot errors. You are very familiar with how both the classic and block editors work and are comfortable using both, together with full-site editing (FSE).
Image editing skills: You are able to create clean and nicely presented snapshots of products and services, editing them as necessary using your own tools or those provided by us. You know how to optimize and compress images, and upload them within WordPress posts. Knowledge of Figma is considered a bonus, but we will also guide you on how to use it if you’ve never tried it before.
SEO knowledge: You understand the importance of SEO and how to address it through your content writing. You know how to research keywords and search intent and are able to use your findings to create factual and coherent articles without keyword stuffing.
We’re a fully remote team of individuals with different backgrounds and life stories that work together on a daily basis to deliver the best guides, tutorials, and reviews that we possibly can. In this role, you will be working alongside Jessie (Editor), Gaby (Project Operations), and Mark (CEO). Get to know them in our About section.
Aside from running WP Mayor, we also develop and support the original and most popular RSS importer plugin for WordPress – WP RSS Aggregator and the ever-growing Instagram plugin – Spotlight Instagram Feeds.
Everyone on our team is given equal opportunity and has an open communication channel with everyone else, whether it’s the Editor, the CEO, or our founder – Jean Galea.
Communication is key to running a successful business, which is why we use asynchronous communication tools in our day-to-day operations. Tools such as Twist and Notion enable everyone on the team to focus on their work without fear of being distracted at any moment, but when the time comes for a one-on-one or team discussion, we’re all there together and on time.
We provide product licenses and access to services that might help you to carry out your work, but everyone on the team is responsible for having access to a computer with a fast internet connection. Whether that’s in your home office, a co-working space, or on a beach – find the perfect place for yourself.
By working with WP Mayor, you have the opportunity to be part of the history of one of the original and most well-respected WordPress blogs. WP Mayor has been around for over a decade and we’re looking forward to seeing what the next one has in store for us!
The remuneration for this role will depend on your availability and preferred payment structure. We are open to applying rates per word, per article, or per month, depending on what is best for both parties.
If you’ve read through the above and think you’d be a good fit, we’d love to hear from you! Fill in the application form below to get started.
While we will do our best to reply to all applications, we typically receive a lot of interest for a role such as this one and we might not manage to respond to each and every submission we receive. If we feel that you’d be a good addition to our team, we will get in touch with you within a few days.
