Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

The role of a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) is dynamic and challenging, requiring a balance of deep technical skills and strategic leadership. Successful CTOs must be able to navigate the complexities of modern technology while aligning their efforts with the broader goals of the business.

As the CTO, you will be responsible for developing and executing the overall technology vision and strategy of the organization. You will play a critical role in driving innovation, overseeing technical operations, and ensuring the successful implementation of technology initiatives to support the company’s goals and objectives.

The role reports to Mindgrub’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Responsibilities & Duties

Business Acumen:

  • Understanding of Business Models: Knowledge of how technology drives revenue, reduces costs, and provides a competitive advantage.
  • Financial Management: Skills in budgeting and financial forecasting related to technology investments.
  • Customer Focus: Insights into how technology can enhance customer experience and satisfaction.

Market Intelligence:

  • Industry Trends: Knowledge, monitoring, and tracking of  industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive developments. 
  • Market Dynamics: Identify opportunities for innovation and proactively respond to changes in the competitive landscape.

Technical Expertise:

  • Deep Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in various technologies and platforms, including software development, infrastructure, cloud computing, and cybersecurity.
  • Software Development: Understanding of programming languages, development frameworks, and best practices in software engineering.
  • System Architecture: Skills in designing scalable, secure, and efficient systems.
  • Emerging Technologies: Awareness and understanding of the latest technological trends and innovations, such as AI, blockchain, and IoT.

Strategic Vision:

  • Technology Strategy: Ability to align technology with the company’s overall business strategy and goals.
  • Innovation: Capacity to foster a culture of innovation and stay ahead of technological advances.
  • Product Roadmapping: Skills in planning and overseeing the development of technology products that meet market needs.

Leadership and Management:

  • Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain relationships with external partners, industry experts, and technology communities.
  • Executive Engagement: Collaborate with executives, department heads, and other stakeholders to understand their technology needs and priorities.
  • Team Building: Expertise in hiring, developing, and retaining top technical talent.
  • Project Management: Proficiency in managing complex projects, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with other departments such as sales, marketing, and finance to integrate technology solutions.

Communication Skills:

  • Technical to Non-Technical Translation: Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders in an understandable way.
  • Persuasive Communication: Skills in advocating for technology initiatives to gain support from executive leadership and other key stakeholders.
  • Presentation and Reporting: Proficiency in presenting technology strategies and results to the board of directors and other senior executives.

Requirements

  • Candidates in the DMV who are within driving distance to the Baltimore office preferred.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Advanced degrees and relevant certifications in Business Administration are preferred.
  • Extensive experience (10+ years) in technology leadership roles, preferably in fast-paced, innovative environments.
  • Extensive experience (10+ years) in digital agency and consulting practices. 
  • Experience in tracking market trends and establishing strategic landscape for company growth.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing technology strategies aligned with business goals.
  • Strong technical background with expertise in areas such as software development, infrastructure, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies.
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Strong business acumen, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
